2. Describing the problem

Before the research I felt that my violin was hanging too low, not parallel to the floor, so I had tried to solve this with a higher shoulder rest. At the time this felt normal and not too uncomfortable, but I sometimes had problems in my lower back, especially when I played a lot in orchestra and I also had problems with shifting. My head had to go down so much to find the violin that my neck got more and more tense, but it was a kind of tension that I was used to.

Nobody that I knew back home in Spain thought about the possibility of altering the chin rest to fit your body. They all played with a very short chin rest and with a very high shoulder rest. Until I joined the research I didn't realize that I had a very long neck. After I found this out, I thought it would be a good idea to match the height of the chin rest more to my neck.
